What is Better: All-on-4 or All-on-6 Dental Implants?

If you are missing most or all of your teeth, dental implants can be a life-changing upgrade. In today’s post, we turn our attention to two of the most common options you will hear about: All-on-4 and All-on-6 dental implants. Both are placed in the jawbone and designed to support a fixed, non-removable arch of teeth. And while both are full-arch implant solutions that replace an entire set of teeth with fixed prostheses anchored to 4 or 6 implants per arch (upper or lower jaw), there are certain differences between them. So which one is better?

The honest answer is that “better” largely depends on your anatomy and bite force. The right choice is less about picking a number and more about creating reliable stability, healthy bone support, and a prosthesis that feels and looks natural, while functioning comfortably for years.

Is All-on-6 better than All-on-4?

If you have been following our office on Facebook or Instagram, you would have noticed that most of our patients have 6 implants on the top and 4 to 6 on the bottom. All-on-6 is a better option for a patient because 6 implants provide greater support and stability for a dental bridge.

As you can see on the X-ray below, the upper bridge does not have any cantilever on the All-on-4 bridge. The special pterygoid implants on the upper left and upper right are all that’s needed to stabilize the bridge. With All-on-6, if one of the implants becomes loose or needs to be replaced, the bridge will remain stable, and the patient will still be able to eat and smile with freedom and confidence.

On the bottom, the nerve proximity sometimes limits our ability to place 6 implants. If it’s in any way possible, Dr. Tsvetov always tries to provide our patients with All-on-6 implants, as it is the best and most stable solution that can last a lifetime with proper care.

What is cheaper, All-on-4 or All-on-6?

One more thing is important to keep in mind. When you are offered different implant treatment options with different prices for All-on-4, All-on-5, and All-on-6 dental implants, it’s important to consider whether this clinic is acting in your best interest or if they’re just looking to make more money. This is because some clinics charge extra fees for every extra implant they insert, so All-on-6 becomes significantly more expensive than All-on-4 dental implants.

Here at Temecula Dental Implants & Oral Surgery, we do not charge extra fees for extra implants. As a dental clinic that prioritizes the patient’s best interest and long-term well-being, our philosophy is to offer the best, uncompromised treatment to all our patients.
