Who is a good candidate for All-on-4 dental implants?

A good candidate for All-on-4 dental implants is someone who has multiple missing teeth or is completely edentulous (no teeth at all). In addition, those with severe periodontal (gum) disease, which causes teeth to be extremely loose are good candidates as well. Lastly, patients with multiple decayed or broken teeth can also benefit greatly from the All-on-4 procedure. Explore various durable and high-quality materials, including zirconia dental implants which provide a natural look, feel, and function.

You can schedule a free consultation with Doctor Tsvetov, an experienced and AAOMS-certified All-on-4 specialist in Temecula Valley. He will examine your teeth and dental and health history and determine whether you’re a good candidate for this type of treatment.

What are All-on-4 dental implants?

All-on-4 dental implants, also referred to as teeth in a day, entail a treatment protocol of replacing all the teeth in one arch (upper or lower jaw or both) with a set of implants and teeth. The minimum number of implants needed to accomplish this would be 4 implants per arch (either upper or lower jaw).

All of the teeth would then be attached to those four implants, hence the term ‘All on 4’.  Another significant hallmark of this procedure is that it avoids the need for extensive bone grafting, which is often necessary with traditional implant placement.

Here at Temecula Valley Facial Oral Surgery, we have advanced technology and extensive expertise in the field, which makes us uniquely positioned to perform this type of procedure. As the foremost zirconia implant specialist in Temecula, Dr. Tsvetov can handle the placement of All-on-4 dental implants expertly, ensuring their durability and reliability.

How does All-on-4 work?

All faulty remaining teeth are removed and 4-6 dental implants per arch are placed into the jaw bone where the teeth were removed. Once the implants are anchored to the jaw bone, a dental bridge with 12-14 teeth is attached to the implants, allowing a patient to maintain/improve the aesthetic appearance and functionality of natural teeth. This bridge is called a provisional or temporary bridge.

Three months after the procedure, once the complete healing of the implants is accomplished and ensured, a permanent dental bridge is made. The permanent dental bridge is even more aesthetic and functional than the temporary one.

Therefore, whether you have missing, decayed, or broken teeth, you can regain their functionality by opting for All-on-4 zirconia dental implants near you. Doctor Tsvetov is an experienced, trusted maxillofacial surgeon who has performed a great number of teeth in a day procedures. How long does the All-on-4 procedure take?

All-on-4 dental implants, also referred to as teeth in a day, because the whole treatment is completed within one day.  The surgical part of the All-on-4 dental procedure, which includes removal of all remaining teeth, bone re-shaping, placement of 4-6 implants per arch typically takes up to 2 hours of surgical time. If the patient undergoes ‘All on 4’ treatment for both upper & lower jaw on the same day surgical time may take up to 4 hours. After surgery is completed, customized temporary set of teeth will be manufactured and attached to the implants. Patient will leave our office with a beautiful set of fixed/non-removable teeth at the day of the treatment  Three months after the surgery, once  implants are healed, the temporary teeth will be replaced with new porcelain or acrylic permanent teeth.

Here at Temecula Facial Oral Surgery, Dr. Tsvetov performs the teeth in one day procedure near your area. Although you may feel some discomfort after the surgery, the healing process is fairly quick, so you will be able to go back to your daily life as soon as possible.

How painful is the All-on-4 procedure?

The discomfort felt after the All-on-4 procedure is mild to moderate. A patient will need to take over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications (Ibuprofen) 3-4 times per day for three to five days to make sure they stay ahead of the pain.

Occasionally, a stronger pain medicine such as Tylenol 3 or Vicodin may be needed intermittently for “break-through” pain. Once the patient reaches the postoperative day four, the discomfort level should decrease greatly, and the swelling will start to markedly improve.

The benefits of the All-on-4 procedure

Undergoing the All-on-4 dental implant procedure brings you the following benefits:

  1. Addresses the whole dental arch (upper or lower jaw) achieving greater aesthetics and improved functionality of the teeth;
  2. An outpatient procedure, which is usually accomplished in a dental office in under 4 hours and completely transforms patients’ lives for the better;
  3. Avoids more extensive bone grafting/bone regenerative procedures, leading to a quicker, more comfortable surgery and easier recovery time, compared to traditional methods;
  4. Provides you with greater stability than removable dentures;
  5. More cost-effective than restoring individual missing teeth with single implants;
  6. Allows patients to regain confidence and functionality in being able to enjoy the foods they want to eat. Patients are able to enjoy foods they would not otherwise be able to with dentures or with multiple decayed/missing teeth. This, in turn, leads to better nutrition, which can lead to better health.

Technological and Digital Advances in All on 4 Treatment

Recent technological breakthroughs in the field of digital dentistry and surgery have allowed for the All on 4 treatment to become more predictable, precise and customizable to unique individual patient needs. To begin to understand these advances, we first need to revisit the All on 4 treatment process and see how these technological changes have greatly improved this treatment concept.

Expertise-Based Procedure for Long-Lasting Dental Implants

All on 4 or “Teeth in a Day” involves taking a patient in terminal dentition stage (all teeth in upper or lower jaw or both are non-salvageable), removing these teeth and surgically placing dental implants (typically 4-6 implants per arch). Shortly after the implants are placed, a new set of fixed dental bridges are attached to the implants, and the patient leaves the office with a brand new set of teeth that are not removable (not dentures).

Cutting-Edge Tech for Successful Implantation

The surgical part of the process has largely stayed the same – implants are still being placed in a traditional way. However, once the implants are placed, three new technologies are key to how the teeth that attach to these implants are made.

The first technology is photogrammetry, a special 3D camera allows for precise capture of the position of the dental implants in a three dimensional space. Think of this as a fancy photo that allows for capturing of new dental implant positions with precise 3D coordinates. The second technology is intraoral digital scanning, which allows the doctor to take a precise digital impression of all the soft tissues in the patient’s mouth, without the need for the traditional dental impression materials.

These two pieces of information are then combined in a specialized dental computer software program that allows for the new patient’s teeth to be custom-designed, taking into consideration the location of the new implants and the surrounding soft tissues (gums). Once the design is finished, the teeth are manufactured on a 3D printer (third technology), utilizing high-quality dental materials. Upon finalizing the printing they are processed, polished, and glazed before being placed into the patient’s mouth.

Out With The Old in With The New Dental Technology

In the old days, to get this process accomplished from start to finish the patient had to sit through multiple traditional dental impressions with impression materials running down the throat and sometimes gagging the patient. These impression materials would often deform with time, resulting in imprecise impressions. The acrylic teeth would be attached to metal posts secured to the implants with composite glue. This bond would often break, resulting in having the patient come in for multiple repairs of the teeth.

Nowadays, there is no need for traditional dental impression materials. Digital impressions are precise and accurate. The teeth printed on a 3D printer are strong and resilient. Even if they do break, they don’t need to be repaired. A new set is simply printed out, and the teeth are delivered within 20 minutes or less. These technological advances are all about improving patient’s experience and satisfaction. But even more importantly they allow for the All on 4 procedure to be done very precisely and at greatly reduced financial cost compared to just a few years ago.
